Allmer, Patricia. Intersections: Women Artists. Manchester: Manchester University Press, 2016. The author presents a list of artists who have dealt with the deconstruction of patriarchal, masculinist and androcentric notions of femininity. One of my favorites is Birgit Jurgenssen.

Beauvoir, Simone De. The Woman Destroyed. New York: Pantheon Books, 2013. This books contains three stories about women in their middle and late age, who deal with specific struggles.

Bourgeois, Louise (2017-2018). An Unfolding Portrait. Sculpture, printmaking and drawings. Exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art. New York, NY. September 24, 2017–January 28, 2018. This exhibition explored the creative process of one of the most important feminist sculptures in contemporary art.

Chadwick, Whitney. Women Artists and the Surrealist Movement: 220 Illustrations, 20 in Colour. London: Thames & Hudson, 2002. Whitney Chadwick gives a historical and artistic perspective on how women influenced the surrealist movement; a story that is not well known due to the power that male artists have had in the field.

Collins, Petra. Babe. Munich: Prestel, 2015. Petra Collins curated a selection of 30 female artists who work with different media and address contemporary topics on femininity.

Cotton, Charlotte. The Photograph as Contemporary Art. NY, NY: Thames & Hudson, 2016. Charlotte Cotton gives a wonderful overview on different ways artists have used photography as contemporary art.

Gilbert, Sandra M., and Susan Gubar. The Madwoman in the Attic: The Woman Writer and the Nineteenth-century Literary Imagination. New Haven: Yale University Press, 2000. This book examines literature from a feminist perspective. It criticizes the way male writers would characterize women as either angels or monsters.

Goldin, Nan, and Marvin Heiferman. The Ballad of Sexual Dependency. New York, N.Y: Aperture Foundation, 2012. This book inspired me on how to address personal topics from a female perspective. The artist deals with themes that I have address in my project proposals such as sexuality, gender and intimacy.

Higgins, Jackie. Why It Does Not Have to Be in Focus: Modern Photography Explained. S.l.: S.n., 2013. Jackie Higgins presents a great selection of contemporary visual artists who have dealt with different approaches. Some relevant artists for my projects are Cindy Sherman, Annette Messager and Jennifer West.

Jansen, Charlotte. Girl on Girl: Art and Photography in the Age of the Female Gaze. London: Laurence King, 2017. This book contains a diverse selection of women photographers who are dealing with the ‘women experience’ nowadays.

Nugent, Alida. You don’t have to like me. Essays on growing up, speaking out and finding feminism. NY, NY: Plume, 2015. The author presents a series of essays on feminist issues from a young and casual perspective.

Ramey, Kathryn. Experimental Filmmaking: Break the Machine. New York: Focal Press, 2016. This book offers a practical view on how to manipulate film while giving concrete examples of artistic projects in 16mm film.
