‘Family is D(r)ying’ was created during the Aurora Photo Center residency in Indianapolis, IN in 2026.
The works depict ears of corn alongside body parts exposed to the sun, following an ancestral practice that remains common in northern Peru, where my family originates. Created within Indiana, part of the United States' renowned Corn Belt, the works create a dialogue between contemporary industrial agricultural practices in the U.S. and ancestral knowledge from the Global South. Through the shared presence of corn and the body, it opens up a discussion on food production, cultural memory, and the symbolic significance of this crop across different histories and communities.
